Bret’s current motorcycle of choice was a used 2012 R1200GS. He purchased the bike at a discounted price of $5,000 from a pawn shop in New York. His adventures began before the motorcycle even made it home.

The 1200 is not fundamentally an off-road machine. She has struggled mightily in filling half the shoes that Bret’s F800GS filled, but she does well, despite her 19″ front tire, minimal front end suspension, and shaft drive. Reluctant to ride off-road, she has found herself to be the star of MotoTrek – a YouTube series that breaks down techniques for the adventure rider.

During her training, she’s left Bret stranded several times, but they have since become accomplices in getting from point A to point B with as little drama as possible.
